A Little Bit About Belinda...
I grew up in Illinois and lived in
the same house until I was 19 years old. And although I live in
Tennessee now, much more than miles separates my hometown from the
place I live today. The woman I have become is not the same girl who
grew up near Chicago. But my Illinois roots serve me well, they are a
part of the fabric of my soul. This year I turned 42 years old and although I
am divorced I find myself on the threshold of a new life. I never
intended to be divorced or to bring a child into the world and then
raise her all by myself. Nowadays I find myself filled with wonder and
gratitude. Part of the wonder is my daughter herself. She has, from the
first time I held her, made my world a different and a better place.
She is to me, the closest I have ever come to glimpsing the hand of
God. Single Motherhood offers few illusions but it has been a journey
that has forged my soul. The view from my window has changed forever,
the future is at hand. It has been nine years since I've been on my
own again, it's given me time not only heal to my heart but to do some
soul searching as well. And I realize now that part of my life was not
meant to last forever. Nowadays I look forward to what the future
holds. My daughter and I have a wonderful life together and I know that
God watches over us and He takes care of us and for that I will be
forever grateful. :)
During the fall of 1999 I went back to college, and the first thing I did was update my computer skills. Computers came a long way in the time since I was last in a classroom, in fact if I stop and think about it, computers have come a long way in my lifetime. Finally in May of 2004 I earned my two-year college degree. Earning my degree and taking classes at this stage in my life has been a deeply moving and rewarding experience that I would not trade for anything. When I first started back to school I was concerned about finishing my English and Math classes, but today all of those classes are behind me and there was a little surprise in store for me. I not only excelled at those courses but I actually enjoyed them and felt good about the hard work I was accomplishing. When one of my professors would write me a note about the quality of my work it was very rewarding to me. It's something that I wasn't even looking for. These days you will find me working on my four-year degree. My plans are to graduate in December 2007 with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
