The Sequatchie Valley

Have you ever driven through a part of the country that seemed to cause time to stand still? Where the view seems to call your name and seems to take your breath away? For me it is a little place nestled in Eastern Tennessee, known as The Sequatchie Valley. It holds a special place in my heart and probably always will. It is divided into three different sections, The Sequatchie Valley, wherein lies the town of Pikeville, is nestled below two mountain tops to the east and west, The Cumberland Plateau to the west and Walden's Ridge to the east. Walden's Ridge divides the Tennessee Valley on the east from The Sequatchie Valley. The Ridge is made up of rolling farmlands, quaint little communities and large wooded areas. For six years, I drove over Walden's Ridge on my way to work each weekday and from there I watched as the seasons changed. In the fall, I was treated to a spectacular, glorious show as I watched the leaves turn from green into gold, yellow and red. And after the cold winter, I watched as bit by bit, things began to green up again and before I knew it, springtime, in all its glory, had come to the mountain. The view of the valley from either mountain top is breathtaking to say the least. Pikeville is the place where we owned our first home, the place where my daughter first lived and where she learned to walk. It was here that my former husband and I made many dear friends and we were included in a social circle that included people from church, work and volunteer duties. Imagine if you will, a place where you not only work with people, but you occasionally eat together, volunteer together, share joys and sorrows, and sit beside each other and worship the Lord in song and praise. Words are hard to express exactly how much this place came to be like home to me. In all, I spent eight years in Pikeville and made many wonderful friends there. I have fond memories of the time that I spent there and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
