Dry milk can help stretch the food dollar (3-9-2017 - Update: I no longer feel that dry milk is an inexpensive way to save money on your grocery bill as the price of dry milk is the same as regular milk sold in the gallon jug these days. I would look for sales on that beore buying dry milk.)
- You can mix as much or as little as you need.
- You can lower the cost of milk by mixing 1 quart
of liquid dry milk with 1 quart of store bought milk.
To keep dry milk tasting good
- Store the tightly covered box of powder in a cool, dry place.
- Mixed powder and water in the refrigerator in a covered
container. This milk should be used within 1 week.
- Store dry milk in the freezer if you will not be using it very often.
Directions for mixing dry milk include
- For 1 quart, add 1 1/3 cups of powder to 4 cups of cold water.
Mix well.
- For one 8-ounce glass, add 1/3 cup powder to 1 cup of cold
water. Mix well.
Dry milk can be used & served in many ways:
- As an ingredient in meatloaf, meatballs, and hamburgers.
The powder blends with the meat juices resulting in a more flavorful and tender product. - As an ingredient in breads, cookies, and cakes.
The dry milk can be added to the dry ingredients,
then add water in place of fluid milk in the recipe.
Follow this chart when using nonfat milk in place of fluid milk:
