Saving Money with Dry Milk

Storing And Using Nonfat Dry Milk

Number of 8-ounce servings of milk needed daily

Dry milk can help stretch the food dollar (3-9-2017 - Update: I no longer feel that dry milk is an inexpensive way to save money on your grocery bill as the price of dry milk is the same as regular milk sold in the gallon jug these days. I would look for sales on that beore buying dry milk.)

To keep dry milk tasting good

Directions for mixing dry milk include

  • For 1 quart, add 1 1/3 cups of powder to 4 cups of cold water.
    Mix well.
  • For one 8-ounce glass, add 1/3 cup powder to 1 cup of cold
    water. Mix well.

Dry milk can be used & served in many ways:

  • As an ingredient in meatloaf, meatballs, and hamburgers.
The powder blends with the meat juices resulting in a more flavorful and tender product.
  • As an ingredient in breads, cookies, and cakes.
The dry milk can be added to the dry ingredients,
then add water in place of fluid milk in the recipe.

Follow this chart when using nonfat milk in place of fluid milk:
